I Have a Friend

a poem

I have a friend

who always needs

never leave

This friend promises,

“the same yesterday,

and today, and forever”

Through my joys

He has a friend

I read his invitation in

labor and heavy burden

of sin and guilt

gave me

daily promises

I leave

be troubled

be afraid

I am worried I will never leave

know that death will remain

take me with Him

How can a man lay down

life assured

sinless

We can know

because I am dead

and I am evermore

Trust eternal

He

at the door

and my voice

me

never trusted as he

I say my word

and shall not pass
